First Beginning of Culver’s

Culver grew from a family-owned restaurant to one of the fan-favorite restaurants. The restaurant was opened in 1984 by Craig and Lea Culver.

Culver started from their hometown of Sauk City, Wisconsin. Initially, they served ButterBurgers and Frozen Custard.  

The very first ButterBurgers were made with an ice cream scoop. The fresh beef was scooped into the desired portion and was finally pressed into the grill. This is still today’s love.

A fresh frozen Custard was the idea of Craig, who fell in love when he was in college. He made it a perfect pair with ButterBurger.

Then back in 1990, Culver’s has its first successful franchise in Baraboo, WI.

The famous Wisconsin Cheese Curds was served later in 1997. The love for these golden curds is why National Cheese Curd Day is on Oct. 15.

The fish fry tradition has strengthened the bond between friends and neighbors.

Culver still follows the tradition, batters each filet by hand, and cooks just after your order.

2013 Culver started the project to support agricultural programs and smart farming methods.
